About

Twenty-five years of land, sea and song.

A powerhouse of contemporary Scottish music, rooted in the traditions of the Highlands and Islands.

Skipinnish are a powerhouse of contemporary Scottish music. Emerging from the heart of the Highlands and Islands, the band has grown into an iconic name on the Celtic music scene, captivating audiences with a potent blend of traditional and modern sound.

Founded in 1999 by Angus MacPhail and Andrew Stevenson, Skipinnish’s roots run deep in Scotland’s musical traditions. The band’s name comes from the place where Angus grew up on the Isle of Tiree — a constant reminder of their connection to the land, the sea and Gaelic culture.

Over the years the line-up has grown, welcoming musicians who have added vibrant new layers: voice, bagpipes, accordion and fiddle over a rhythmic foundation of drums, bass and keyboards.

A string of successful albums and singles showcased their self-penned songs and distinctive sound. Their music, often reflecting the Highland landscape and culture, has resonated with fans around the world and earned the band numerous accolades.

In 2024 Skipinnish marked their 25th anniversary with their two biggest ever shows: a Highland homecoming at the Bught in Inverness, and a night on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade — following in the footsteps of Rod Stewart, The Who, Kylie Minogue, Deacon Blue and Runrig — in front of a capacity crowd of over 8,500.

The band remains a beacon of Scottish music, continuing to inspire and entertain — and the best is still to come.

“Skipinnish took Shrewsbury Folk Festival by storm this year presenting their high energy Celtic music alongside superb vocals and brilliant musicianship. Our audience loved them so much we invited them back for a second year. This is one of Scotland’s finest bands.”
